Miguel Cabrer obtained a computer science degree from Balearic Islands University in 1996, and from the start of his career he has been particularly interest in the application of Information Technologies on Health Systems.
After completing a research and development programme for the evaluation of telemedicine projects in the United States (Stanford Medical University Center, Palo Alto, and Emory University, Atlanta), Cabrer began working at BIT Institute of the Balearic Government as a telemedicine researcher in 1996. At the same time, he developed eHealth projects at Manacor Hospital, Son Dureta Hospital, the Red Cross and a number of private clinics in his role as a consultant.
From 2001 to 2006, Cabrer was the CIO of Son Llatzer Hospital in Palma de Mallorca, where he managed the Digital Hospital project that received numerous international awards including the 2004 eEurope Award for eHealth. From 2003 until June 2006, Cabrer was eHealth Coordinator for the Balearic Islands Health Service. Miguel Cabrer works currently as an independent eHealth advisor.
