Petra Wilson and Christopher Nolan appointed HIMSS Europe Governing Council Chair and Vice Chair

Petra Wilson, a Director for Public Sector Healthcare in Cisco’s Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), has been elected Chair of the HIMSS Europe Governing Council. Christopher Nolan from the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland is appointed Vice Chair. Both were unanimously elected by the HIMSS Europe Governing Council on 2 July 2007, and will serve for one year, until 30 June 2008.

World of Health IT Conference Is Huge Hit with EMEA Region
GENEVA, Switzerland (17 October 2006)

Close to 2,000 people attended the first World of Health IT Conference and Exhibition held in Geneva, Switzerland, from Oct. 10-13. The event drew speakers, attendees and exhibitors from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) including places as diverse as Andorra and Azerbaijan, Iceland and Israel and Saudi Arabia and Serbia-Montenegro. The main organizers of this event include the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the European Commission (EC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

HIMSS Opens European Office in Brussels, Belgium

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) announces the opening of the HIMSS Europe office in Brussels, Belgium.  The announcement was made at the World of Health IT Conference & Exhibition (WHIT) 2006 held Oct. 10-13 at the GENEVA PALEXPO in Geneva, Switzerland.  HIMSS Chief Operating Officer Norris Orms, CAE, will work with Mr. Strübin as the HIMSS North America liaison and contact.

US appoints new Health IT coordinator
Washington, DC (20 September 2006)

The Bush Administration has appointed Robert Kolodner, MD as Acting National Coordinator for Health IT. As Chief Health Information Officer and a former Acting Chief Information for Veterans’ Health, Dr. Kolodner has worked closely with government and industry colleagues in addressing many of the challenges facing the healthcare IT community.

HIMSS Europe develops new educational programme for 2007
